What is a B-Scan Test?
For all those people needing eye care are aware of what B-scan is, this is one of the most recognized eye
diagnoses available with the leading eye specialists of the world. If you want some clarity, then this is an
ultra-sound for your eye. It covers your whole eye and the area covering your eyes. This machine is
exactly the same as the one used for performing an ultrasound. But the difference lies in the area of
expertise which is the eyes.
B-scan has proven out to be very effective as far as the creation of the picture is concerned. It is due to
the high-frequency sound waves being used in the test machine, these are transformed back into the
structure of the eye. The echoes which are formed from the sound waves help in creating a picture of
hard as well as the soft tissues of the eye.
Well, this is not just it. B-scan is also used in places where other tests can not be performed. Such as,
when a person has cataracts, the eye condition is not able to handle medical tests and procedures. In
such cases, B-scan is performed because it is completely safe. It is also used for detecting the damage
which has occurred to the eyes. Other methods of examination may not be safe regarding such
infections and eye problems.
How is a B-Scan conducted?
There are quite many things which you need to know, but one thing you have to remember is that is a
non-invasive procedure, ensuring safety. There’s no part of the machine which would touch your eye
even to a minor extent. The procedure is performed in steps.
Firstly, the doctor puts some drops in the eye to numb the area which is around the eye, along with the eye structure. The eye would be numbed one by one. After this, the doctor would place wand of the machine close to your eye and the sound waves would start to form a structure of your eye. Your doctor would ask you to look into several directions to completely grasp the structure of your eye in dept.
